My top five Nigerian music collaborations of all time.

I am a lover  of music and its safe to assume that I have an eclectic taste in music i.e I enjoy rap, Fuji, high life, pop, rock and even jazz sometimes.
In this post, I will be sharing my  five best collaborations between Nigerian artistes

Disclaimer:
1) No International collaboration and strictly two artistes.
2)I see Nigerian music as a long continuous art, No new school, no old school, just classics.

5)Jeremiah Gyang featuring Asa  Comforter's song

Probably the least popular of the songs on my list. Does not take anything away from this song. Its mellow and indeed comforting. Released in 2008, and later included in the 2012's Love album by Gyang

4)Phyno and Olamide ''Fada Fada''

Great things happen when we work together. Phyno and Olamide's music relationship reminds me of bread and butter. Released in May 2016. Different from Phyno's traditional igbo rap style, is a song of appreciation to God.

3)Psquare featuring J.Martins "E no easy''

Released in 2010,off Psquare's danger album is a song about hope.catchy pidgin english lyrics and a simple message of hope makes this song have a spot on my list.

2)9ice featuring Tubaba  Street credibility

Taken off 9ices's 2008 album Gongo aso, this song has it all. From use of indigenous language (yoruba and idoma), to 9ice's yoruba proverbs (kiniun l'oba eran),to the catchy title,It also doesn't hurt that they both have loads of street cred.

1)King Sunny Ade featuring Onyeka Onwenu   Wait for me

In the land of collaborations, this is a collaboration and a half. Its safe to assume KSA and Onyeka Onwenu are legends in every sense of the word. Released in the late 80's as part of a sensitization campaign to control overpopulation. Three songs were recorded by the duo, but this is probably the most known. Beautiful use of harmony, sonorous voices,  trendsetting as this  was a rare thing back then (collaborations). so great was their chemistry back then that shortly after the songs were released, rumours started flying about a non existent romantic relationship.

Thats it great people. No woman is an island. Please drop your favourite collaborations, comments, suggestions down below.

Cheers.

MTN PROJECT FAME 7.0: NOMINATION SHOW FOUR: URBAN HIP LIFE TUNES

Joseph and Bolanle looking great.

Hello Friends,

So the theme for this week was Urban Hip life tunes (West Africa).

The show proper started on a great note with Academy Alumni Oyinka(s)ade (season  5 finalist) and Immaculate (season 6 first runner up),singing a cover of Sam smith's 'stay with me' and then going on to sing 'Adura' and 'Gogo baby' respectively. They did fabulously great, proof to the fact that you  don't need to win it to own it.

The contestants did their bits. Lets take a rundown of their individual performances

Daniella

Fire on the Mountain :Asa
Great powerful voice, well controlled,Not really a fan of the arrangement but with a voice like that, Sister can pull any stunts she likes. She is one to watch (Like Ella in season five).
Good performance though.
Verdict: 7/10

Geoffrey
Adaure: Imike
Very good vocals,Great dancing and dramatization, Very interesting performance to watch. For  a few seconds, was a little out of sync with the band, but not obvious.(Quality of a great entertainer).Overall one of the standouts of the night.
Verdict 9/10.

Oge
Oh Baby :Chidinma
Okay and safe performance. Was out of breath especially when moving around.Very obvious she is more comfortable with ballads and slow music. She is good to watch though.
Verdict 5/10

Clement
Sweet mistake: Samini
Good performance.Captured the essence of the song.Good voice, good voice control and enunciation and also with an infecitous personality.Rap was also a good surprise.
Verdict 8/10

Christian

Treat her Royal: Kesse
Christian appeared to be in control. He showcase his singing skills and his softer side. His singing was very good in my opinion, probably the best from his so far.He also sang well in his indigenous language.
Verdict 8/10

Rukky
Pull over:Kcee
Good performance, Not up to her usual best, but still very decent.Great costume, probably the best of the night.Good characterization , singing. She is definitely one to watch. She comes across as a nice person. She adapts well to any genre of music though.

Verdict 7/10

Debbie

Body hug: Monica

Okay singing, though she didn't get into character. She seemed to be holding back a lot,the song should be a free spirited one, with lots of expressions.

Verdict 5/10

Ugo

Touching body: J Martins
An okay performance. Not bad.Okay singing and dancing.Could be better though. He needs to work extremely harder. I think
Verdict 4/10

Taiwo
Komole : Sean Tizzle

Very good performance.Surprisingly because of all the dancing involved. Had the right characterization, inner swag,Lots of effort was put in the performance.Enjoyable to watch.
Verdict 8/10

Fluorish
Megbele: Omawumi

Good costume and dancing,A whole lot more than can be said for the singing.Went off key after the first verse.Probably my least favorite of the night.
NB Am yet to understand why Bibie Brew feels she isn't bringing her soul. This could be it!

Verdict 3/10

Laami

Don't break my heart:Cynthia Morgan

Good to see Laami moving and shaking.Good performance,But I still expect much more from her, Probably because I followed her Journey from Accra to Kumasi and then Lagos.
I feel she has been below par.She looks very good,Though I dont understand why she has to take off her shoes
Verdict 4/10  (Because I know she can do much better)

Shola aka Shollyfresh

Photocopy: 9ice

Shola is on a good roll.Very Very good performance.was into character,Nice juju flavour added into the song.song. Shola is showing amazing growth,This is a desired quality of  a winner! Growth.Good job.

Verdict 9/10

Emeka "Emekus"

Ada Ada : Flavour
"Emekus" Literally stole the night,Great singing and characterization. Great Ad libs (probably the best of the lot). Saved the best for last.Emekus is really really improving, Like Shola too.

Verdict 9.5/10

MTN PROJECT FAME 7.0 :BYE KOFO: ELIMINATION SHOW 4

Hello Friends.

Sorry to be away for a while.

So at the third elimination show, the Judges placed everybody on probation. According to them, to serve as a wake up call to all the contestants. I have issues with seasons where this is the modus operandi.

Anyways the show started on a great note with a medley of west African group hits, great singing!

The 3 wildcards contestants did their thing and Daniella was evetually selected (deservedly so in my honest opinion). Congrats Daniella for being the latest addition to the academy.

Drumroll…………The Four contestants with the least number of votes were Oge, Kofo, Laami and Christian (Ahhhh!)

And then the four of them sang to save their lives (in the academy o).Four great performances.

The Judges saved Christian, Faculty saved Oge and then the contestants now probation free saved Laami with six votes to three.

Kofo left with a message of gratitude to everybody, and also a wonderful rendition of Brackets Yori Yori.

Sad to see Kofo go home (I honestly felt she was the dark horse of the competition, No pun intended).

So what do you think???

Did Kofo deserve to go home?

MTN PROJECT FAME 7.0: NOMINATION SHOW 2

THEME: Pop and urban rock

Joseph and Bolanle

Clement didn’t get to perform because of a broken leg, wishing him “soonest recover”.

Flourish

Deborah Cox: Who do you love
Slightly Off-key. Forgot lines at a point, nice characterization of the song though.
Verdict 3/10

Emeka ‘Emekus’

Boyz to men: Back for good
Surprising to hear that Boyz to men has a version of the song, only knew Take that’s version.
Just okay could have been better, Has an infectious personality though.
Verdict 5/10

Oge

Katy Perry: Roar
Out of breath for about half of the song. An okay performance, bordering on great .
Great potential though. Great looks
Verdict 6/10

Debby

Shania Twain: That don’t impress me much
Another okay performance, Lost breath at some points, great looks, Felt she didn’t get into the song before it ended quite abruptly, Great stage presence though, Nice on the eyes.
Verdict 6/10

Taiwo

Don’t Matter: Akon
Seems like a genuinely nice guy, Strained his voice at some point, was into character, Has to work on his singing if he intends to win this. Less than okay performance.
Verdict 4/10

Rukky

Sia: Chandelier
Honestly felt the beginning was a little weak, picked up after about three lines, and held on till the end, great looks, costume use of stage, good singing also.
Verdict 8/10

Christian

Neyo: Let me love you
Hmmmm, probably the best swag of the pack, however not so sure of the singing, He needs to actually decide on whether to sing, perform or do both.
Verdict 4/10

Kofo

Avril Lavigne:My Happy ending
I feel Kofo is the dark horse of this competition, she is really underrated. Good performance, great stage presence.
Verdict 7.5/10

Melody

Katy Perry: Unconditional
Another Katy Perry song, Hmmmmmm.Very weak beginning, slightly off, picked up and then fell off the key again. Has a strong voice should be careful so she wouldn’t appear to be shouting.
Verdict 4/10

Shola

Chris Brown: Don’t judge me
I won’t. Good beginning, good dance moves, Loved the almost acapella part. I became lost when the band came in. Needs to work on his coordination with the instruments.
Verdict 7/10

Lasbrey

Craig David:Seven days
Nostalgic! Okay performance. Needs to work on the coordination with the band. Voice sounded really low, had to strain to hear, however great swag and infectious personality.
Verdict 5/10

Ugochukwu

Linkin park: Numb
Loved this song and was looking forward to it, probably my least favourite of the night. He didn’t have enough energy for the song. The end was good though. Rock !
Verdict 3/10

Geoffrey

Justin Bieber: Baby
In my opinion, the strongest of the night, Good singing, Good body movement and stage presence. However a little distracted towards the end. great ending.
Verdict   8.5/10

Laami

Rihanna: What Now
The beginning was a little slow, However picked up and held it to the end, though  low at some points. Safe to say it was an okay performance.
Verdict 5/10
At the end of the night, Fluorish,Ugo,Melody,Lasbrey and Debby were placed on probation

Then the four contestants came and performed again, with standouts from Clement and David.

Before the results were announced, Season 3 Alumnus Tolu gave a great account of himself with his song ,Beautiful women.

Clement was saved with the highest number of votes, Shola by the Faculty and then Emeka by the rest of the contestants not on probation, leading with 8 votes as against Davids three.

Sad to see David go.
